SO YOU’RE READY TO START YOUR AERIAL JOURNEY?

FLY = Fly Like YOU

Below you will find descriptions on in-studio classes and more info on our workshops.  Please familiarize yourself with the FAQs + Terms & Conditions section so you know the proper attire, hygiene, and aerial safety measures we require to follow at FSAF; this helps avoid any bumps along your journey!  This round-the-clock info is here to answer any questions concerning strength, experience, and other commonly asked questions when it comes to Aerial Fitness.   **Each class will have its own requirements and what to wear, please be sure to follow those guidelines.  Workshop announcements will state what attire is suitable for that specific workshop.**

**Disclaimer: Aerial Fitness is NOT an easy sport!  It can be tough and could even take years to safely reach advanced levels/goals.  It will take ambition, courage, and determination to get through the skills.  You can expect apparatus burns, bruises, skin scrapes and body aches.  We never said defeating gravity was easy.  But don’t worry, we are right beside you and you’ll be saying “What Gravity?” soon enough!**

Our teaching structure is to provide our classes with the proper knowledge in the foundations while we progressively gain strength to ensure all around are safe, to inspire the best work from our students, while also keeping it challenging to keep testing your comfort zone.

Class Descriptions

Intro to FSAF

This is where you will start!  We train on a variety of vertical apparatuses from Aerial Yoga, Lyra, Pole and Silks.  This class is designed to introduce all the apparatuses, giving the student a chance to tune into how their body feels moving on & around different apparatuses.  To kick off our 90-minute Intro class, we start with a warm-up, basic strength training and conditioning.  We then move to our first apparatus, Aerial Yoga.  In this section we guide you through the simplest movements.  Next, we move to the Lyra, keeping all movements low and grounded, learning to mount and dismount.  Last but not least, we finish with the pole!  We teach the most basic beginner moves, barely taking our feet off the ground.  Ending class, is the cool-down where we do basic stretches that are focused on areas where aerialist need it most.  You will be taught the proper technique for grips and muscle engagement through body awareness on all apparatuses, so by the end of class, you are comfortable and confident.  Now it’s your CHOICE where you want to begin your aerial journey!  You are now ready to enroll in your first class, or classes!

Aerial Zen

Slow down and relax in a playful way!  Aerial Zen is a type of aerial yoga that gives your body a chance to recover and recharge in a very soft, meditative and tranquil way.  The postures allow you to invite and experience the silence, the connection with your body, mind and breath.  We work mindful poses on, hovering slightly over and off the ground; some may be slightly challenging, but most are grounding, relaxing and healing.  Experience a slight tissue massage from the silky apparatus as your body lets go and relaxes.  Relaxation is key to boosting your immune system, feeling recharged and for healing; it supports the nervous system and a good nights sleep.  Enjoy a room surrounded with soothing sounds, peaceful lighting and relaxing aromatherapy to leave you feeling at peace and rejuvenated. At the end of class, we have a special meditative cool-down where we relax with a cool/hot pad and a crystal of your choice.

Flexi FLYers

Let’s get flexible!!  Flexible!!  Flexibility is an important skill when it comes to aerial fitness!  Having a higher level of flexibility makes it easier to perform and deepen movements and well-stretched muscles achieve a greater range of motion.  Becoming more bendy offers physical benefits like improved physical performance while building strength & stability, less muscle pain & soreness, improved posture & balance, and it promotes a positive state of mind.  We stretch with partners and other props to advance our flexibility in these classes.  Each month, we will have a targeted objective to add to our general stretching. We may focus on splits one month, the next month all about shoulders & upper back, then move our focus to back bends. We will rotate our flexibility objective, so you have the chance to focus on your own personal flexibility needs and attend those specific classes. These are just a few ideas of what we will cover in Flexi Flyers: Side Splits, Box Splits, Splits in the Air, Back Bends, Hips & Hamstrings, Shoulders & Upper Back, Contortion, Chest Openers, and Toe Pointe.

Trap||Lyra Lingo

Here we have static Trapeze and Lyra.  Lyra or aerial hoop, is a steel tube apparatus resembling a hula hoop, that suspends from the ceiling, in which aerialists perform circus-like acts.  Performers use the lyra & trapeze to support their body weight, in unexpected ways, in order to move fluidly around the hoop/bar.  Lyra has advanced quickly by borrowing techniques from the static trapeze and other aerial acts and is often combined with other disciplines such as dance and contortion.  While climbing, inverting, rolling and turning every which way on this apparatus, you will discover your center of gravity in many different poses.  In Trap & Lyra Lingo 101, we teach you the language of lyra & trap with mounts and dismounts, keeping all movements low & in the center of the hoop/bar with the basics. We add in strength training and conditioning exercises to help adjust your balance to the hoop/bar and build muscle memory.  Once you are ready to hover with more control, we take the poses from 101 to create combos, learn more tricks outside the hoop/bar, and movement transitions.  In our advanced classes, we guide you through sequences and tricks above the hoop/bar including spanset tricks, and advanced rolls and dynamic combos.

Trap||Lyra Lingo 101 (Beginner)

Trap||Lyra Lingo 202 (Intermediate)

Trap||Lyra Lingo 303 (Advanced)

Pole Craft

We believe that pole fitness can be anything you want it to be!  Our classes are based on an openness to explore whatever creative outlet you desire with pole; from a contemporary art form, athlete/fitness style, or to explore the sexy side with Carnal Craft.  It is your journey, and only YOU can “CRAFT” it!  That is why we have created TWO Pole Craft Series to suit your personal desires.  You have attended the “Intro to FSAF” and decided you want to discover your wings on the Pole; now you get to choose which style you would like to craft!  Stick with “Pole Craft” for the athletic & contemporary pole styles.  And choose “Carnal Craft” to unleash your inner sexy!

During Pole Craft, we use a vertical stainless steel pole as a tool in our training.  We start with grounded movements, slowly taking our feet off the ground, playing with simple poses and spins around the pole in the beginner series.  As we master those beginner movements, we take what we learned even higher up the pole.  In our intermediate classes, we continue to challenge ourselves by climbing, adding more elevating poses and going up-side down (inverting).  We also introduce “Spin Pole”, taking those poses to a new level.  Leveling up with each class, earning your wings all the way to the pros; with showstopping and gravity-defying tricks that seem as if you are levitating or floating in Zero-G space!

Pole Levels:

Pole Craft 1 (Beginner)

Pole Craft 2 (High Beginner)

Pole Craft 3 (Intermediate)

Pole Craft 4 (High Intermediate)

Pole Craft 5 (Advanced)

Pole Craft 6 (Pro)

EXPERIENCE:  Intro to FSAF is required.

WHAT TO WEAR:  You have probably noticed that most pole aerialists wear little clothing, and there is a reason for that! Due to the nature of the apparatuses’ material, it requires a skin-contact grip to the metal for the safest results.  Studio/gym apparel.

Carnal Craft

Welcome to the Red Light Special!  We turn the lights down low and let our Inner Goddess flow in this class based on TLC’s hit song! Additional Pole Classes:

Spin Craft

Put a spell on your spin in Spin Craft!  We take everything you learned from Pole Craft 1 and beyond, adding an upgrade to the static rotations to spin mode in this vertigo-inducing, reeling combo class!  We break down the ebb & flow, and spin mechanics of flying with more momentum.  Create spinning combos to really accelerate and challenge the centripetal force and test your limits!  Can you hang?  **Warning! Dizziness is inevitable at first, some may feel queasy during or after this class, even days later!**

Heel Craft

Pleasers or heels/stilettos are yet another apparatus that some of us use in our aerial journeys, so we take them seriously!  We will go over the parts of the Pleaser, learn fun history about heels, and you will flow on those toes in no time!  You will be taught proper ankle warm-ups and stretches, along with the correct engagement during poses, slides, glides and edge-work.  Through those special techniques, this class will build your ankle strength and engagement for flawless and beautiful fluid heelwork in your practices and showcases!

Silks

Silks are a similar apparatus to Aerial Yoga, but instead of creating a loop in the material like a hammock, two pieces of fabrics create a waterfall that the performer utilizes to crochet and thread around the body to create poses, acrobatic movements and majestic drops.  Our beginner classes teach you the foundations from creating safe foot locks, climbing, hip keys, and strength training to build the upper body strength needed to invert and hang upside down.  As you improve with strength and experience, you start learning to tumble down the silks and weave yourself into new complex combos!
